Executive Director of Alumni Relations

Amy Gray Beck is the Executive Director of Alumni Relations at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She has previously worked in university admissions and students affairs. Dr. Beck has a BA in English Literature from Virginia Tech, a Masters in Counselor Education Student Affairs from Clemson University, and a PhD in Educational Leadership from VCU. Her dissertation research area is women and philanthropy. On the weekends you can find Amy playing dinosaurs with her two year old, Sonny, her husband Jeff, and their dog, Millie.
Chad Krouse
Assistant Vice President for University Development
Virginia Commonwealth University
Chad Krouse is the Assistant Vice President for University Development at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA where he leads a team of fundraisers for donor engagement. He also serves as an adjunct professor at William & Mary’s School of Education and the VCU Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs where he teaches philanthropy. Krouse earned a BA from Hampden-Sydney College, a Master of Divinity from Sewanee: The University of the South, and an EdD from VCU.

This course was developed in cooperation with the Navy Fleet and Family Support Center, San Diego, to assist I&R Specialists everywhere.

This course is for Information & Referral Specialists who handle human service inquiries and need some additional specific knowledge and understanding to better handle issues involving U.S. military service members and their families.
When you have successfully completed this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the basic structure of the U.S. military and some of the unique life challenges faced by military families.
- Outline the issues surrounding pre-deployment, deployment, and homecoming for service members and their families.
- Identify the basic military program options available for service members and some of the community-based services that can offer further support and assistance.
