Connecting diverse clients to transportation options can pose a unique set of challenges and barriers, but understanding and valuing the diversity of callers is the first step to building inclusive strategies that will begin to address these issues. This webinar will provide a brief overview of the importance of transportation equity. It will include key findings from a nationwide survey on transportation DEI conducted by the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center in 2021. Additionally, attendees will hear from Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). They will examine ways to leverage a potential Specialized Services Transportation Program to provide services and enable essential trips for their target population.

July marks the 31st anniversary of the signing of the ADA, one of America's most comprehensive pieces of civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life -- to enjoy employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, and to participate in State and local government programs and services. We will enjoy a video about the history of support for and bias against individuals with disabilities and the advocacy efforts that culminated in the ADA. Panelists who are both individuals with disabilities and who work in the disability sector of I&R. They will be here to give their perspective on the ADA now, what works still needs to be done and answer your questions about situations you have faced in your work around the disability. An ASL interpreter is being provided.

Come join us for a fantastic conversation with LGBTQ+ individuals and allies about sometime tricky and potentially awkward situations that sometime arise in the I&R world around gender, gender identity and sexual orientation. We will clarify the definitions of common terminology and explore the history of stigma, discrimination and violence against those who have identified in the community. There will be a fun game that will help us on our journey of discovery and understanding (and there will also be prizes). We'll end the hour together with a practical trouble shooting and brainstorming session with our panelists about situations and scenarios you have have faced in your effort to provide excellent service to clients and establish great relationships with your peers. You can submit those when you register!

Go beyond traditional diversity, equity, and inclusion practices to boldly create a lasting impact in your workforce, team, and community. Make connections with others, be inspired, build a playbook of implementable strategies to transform business workplaces and community culture into one of real inclusion. This "Cultural Awareness Tool" is not about asking people to change their values or core beliefs. Instead, the conversation on diversity, equity, and inclusion is about holding space for difficult-but-necessary conversations and being open to ideas, perspectives, and experiences, outside of your own.
