More and more, aging and disability providers across the country are seeking to ensure that they are providing culturally responsive services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) older adults – including agencies located in rural parts of the country. Rural organizations face additional challenges due to the lack of existing LGBT community infrastructure and must seek new solutions to reach and serve LGBT older adults in culturally responsive ways. This presentation provides a firm grounding in SAGE’s best practice guide for the Aging and Disability network LGBT outreach and planning.

Come join us for a fantastic conversation with LGBTQ+ individuals and allies about sometime tricky and potentially awkward situations that sometime arise in the I&R world around gender, gender identity and sexual orientation. We will clarify the definitions of common terminology and explore the history of stigma, discrimination and violence against those who have identified in the community. There will be a fun game that will help us on our journey of discovery and understanding (and there will also be prizes). We'll end the hour together with a practical trouble shooting and brainstorming session with our panelists about situations and scenarios you have have faced in your effort to provide excellent service to clients and establish great relationships with your peers. You can submit those when you register!
