    George Bonano, professor of clinical psychology at Columbia University, has learned through his intense studies of grief that there is no one way to cope that is best, and that resilience is an outcome...not an aspect of character or even a skill you acquire. Using Bonano’s research (with a healthy mix in of the Multi System Model of Resilience from some smart folks at Ryers University), we will explore more about how eating a bag of chips can be considered adaptive coping, how talking to friends about the problem can be maladaptive coping, and explore a 3X3 model of recognizing and even cultivating resources in your life that can lead you to a resilient outcome every time... on the path and in the way that feels best to you.

    It's been part of human biology for thousands of years - our nervous systems are built to activate when we feel threatened, afraid or overwhelmed. It's meant to keep up safe. But being in that type of neuro-physical overdrive for extended periods of time can cause not only feelings of burnout and fatigue...they can negatively affect mental health, create physical issues and even promote increases in illness. Lisa will talk about how in the current situation, its not about finding ways to be calm, but ways to be present and aware. This 8 minute video will help you understand better what you're feeling...and how you can regulate it.

    Are you feeling the strain of hearing the stress in callers voices and feeling the emotions of others all day? Are you, yourself, overwhelmed and anxious because of the current situation? You are not alone. And we have some ideas. Join Lisa and Chiara as they chat about the challenge of helping others calm down when it seems like everything around you is chaotic. The truth is our nervous systems "borrow" both activation (anxiety, concern, excitement) and regulation (calmness, peace, awareness) from one another. When we learn to regulate ourselves, we can help other find that same calm in the midst of the storm.
